Paddleboarding in Sardinia - Explore Cala Luna by SUP

Intro

Cala Luna is often referred as one of the most beautiful beaches to be found on the gorgeous island of Sardinia. Located in the Gulf of Orosei, about 5 km in a straight up from the nearest village (Cala Gonone), Cala Luna is only accessible by sea - making it a perfect spot for Paddle boarding in Sardinia.

The coast of the Gulf of Orosei is geographically unique, with steep limestone cliffs, deep caves and clear turquoise waters, making it ideal for several outdoor sports, like stand-up paddle boarding, snorkeling and climbling.

Starting out in the central beach of Cala Gonone, just next to the marina, the route we're recommending will take you along the gentle coastline of sand and small rock formations towards Cala Fuili (approximately 3 km paddle), here you will find a gorgeous beach and the perfect place to pause for refreshments before resuming the journey.

Highlights

The turquoise clear waters, the calm of the mediterranean (especially in the Summer), the amazing scenery and the safety of having several spots to stop or escape along the route, puts this paddling haven on the very 1st place of my list.

From Cala Fuili it is also possible to do a 4 km hike to Cala Luna, following the track around the limestone cliffs, but we recommend you stick with your paddle board as you wouldn't want to miss the best section of the route…the amazing caves of Bue Marino, the last island refuge of the rare monk seal.

The waters at But Marino flow inside the caves, giving you a unique perspective on the grandiosity of this rock formations, with impressive alcoves and huge dropping stalactites. From here it is just another 2km paddle towards Cala Luna, passing along impressive limestone cliffs, smaller caves and a few secluded beaches.

There is a boat connection between Cala Gonone and Cala Luna, and you can pay for the ride if you feel too tired to go back.If you like climbing, bring your gear. Cala Luna has several climbing routes, and it is a world renowned spot for cave climbing above the sea water.

This is an ideal route for intermediate ability. You'll get the most out of the waters here with a touring board such as the Sport Range.
