BEHIND THE SCENES OF OUR 2017 PHOTOSHOOT
Every year there is an almost tangible atmosphere here at Red Paddle Co HQ as we plan for our annual photoshoot. It is an atmosphere created from the heady concoction of trepidation, anticipation and excitement as we come to the conclusion of months of planning and years of design, testing and production.
2016 was no different. As the crew of 14 tentatively shook hands at London Gatwick Airport it was clear that this was a team of dedicated professionals selected for their prowess in their respected industries. The team, comprising of two photographers, one drone pilot, two videographers, a Creative Director, Managing Director, shoot assistants, Marketing Managers and four sun-kissed paddlers, were already discussing the plans for the week ahead with keen interest. The buzz was electric; this was going to be good!
Welcome to an exclusive behind the scenes look at what it took to capture some of the most iconic and breath-taking scenes in our 2017 brochure and short film…
Managing Director and Co Founder, John Hibbard, taking on the Acheron river on the 9’6″ Flow in this epic aerial shot.
Two hours were spent scoping out a safe launch spot in the fast-flowing currents. There was no room for error here!
Thick vegetation meant it was impossible to get the drone in the air. If it wasn’t for this rocky outcrop we would have never seen the vibrant blue azure of the river as seen in the aerial view.
It wasn’t until the middle of the week that we stumbled upon this wild, undisturbed paradise. The perfect setting for an adventure on our 12’6” and 13’2” Explorer boards.
It’s not all glam. To capture this insane spot the team had to wade, barefoot through swamp-like marsh land and avoiding wildlife to ensure they were in position to capture the sunset.
Jay from GlobalShots hitches a ride to get closer to the action and capture the 13’2 Explorer in extraordinary clarity. Click right to see the world behind Jay’s lens.
Battling it out on the new 2017 12’6″ and 14’0″ Elites which feature our patented FFC stiffening system.
Nigel and Dave co-pilot the DJI Inspire Pro drone (aka Tina) to the perfect spot to capture the ultimate racing action.
With the light fading and the drone on its last battery there was only enough time for one take to capture this awesome race scene before Tina the drone went into recovery mode resulting in some much need TLC.
Special thanks to Nigel Riches and GlobalShots for the videography and photography in our 2017 launch film and brochure. We’d also like to thank all the team who made our 2017 shoot our best yet!
Here’s to next year!!
