To kick start the Summer holidays in the UK, the Red Paddle Co crew set off on the road to visit 6 hot spots across England and Wales.
During the first week of August we hit the road in our Red Paddle Co branded tour bus stopping in on some beautiful lakes, rivers and beaches to share the SUP love.
STOP 1 – Bray Lake
Thanks to everyone that braved the wet weather and came out to see us at Bray Lake in Maidenhead! Everyone was so enthusiastic and really got stuck into the free stand up paddle boarding classes on offer and especially the SUP yoga and SUP fitness with Sarah Sims who joined us from SUP FITness Devon.
Red Paddle Co comrade Lizzie Carr, joined us at Bray Lake as part of her mammoth Plastic Patrol tour across the UK. Willing volunteers hit the water on Red Paddle Co paddle boards with Lizzie to collect discarded plastic on the waterways surrounding Bray Lake.
We were also joined by the Palm team throughout the tour who showcased their fantastic range of clothing and accessories and helped people to work out what to wear while paddle boarding.
STOP 2 – Tallington Lake
Tallington was a dreamy location despite the wind! We had a fantastic day with lots of fun and games including races on our 4 person Dragon boards with the lucky team winning some snazzy clothing courtesy of Palm.
Thanks to our fantastic instructors Dan and Charlie from Tallington Lake who ran our SUP taster and SUP improver classes.
STOP 3 – Manley Mere
On the 3rd date of our road trip we stopped off in the beautiful countryside to set-up our SUP shop at the picturesque venue, Manly Mere, Cheshire. The weather was pretty varied with torrential rain one minute and bright sunshine the next but this didn’t put off all the lovely people that came down to test Red Paddle Co boards, try SUP for the first time or partake in a chilled SUP yoga session.
Thank you to the Manley Mere gang, especially our instructor for the day Sam who was awesome! Also thank you to Julia Frearson from Gloucester Yoga Studio who lead free SUP yoga sessions throughout the day.
STOP 4 – North Dock, Llanelli
Stop 4 of the tour took us to Llanelli in Wales to meet up with the guys from SUP Gower who were on hand to offer expert advice on which Red Paddle Co board is right for you. Ben the resident instructor led SUP classes throughout the day and it was great to see so many people trying paddle boarding for the first time. We were also joined by presenter Siany and the team from Wave radio who tried SUP yoga for the first time and loved it!
STOP 5 – Docklands, London
Stop 5 took us to the East of the ‘Big City’ – Royal Victoria Docks in London. Wakeupdocklands hosted us for the day and it really was a jam packed day of fun on and off the water!
We were joined by the lovely team from lululemon who provided free land-based yoga classes throughout the day led by the very talented and energetic Sanchia Legister. Also on site was the epic lululemon Om Meditation bus, a slick stylish moving meditation bus! All meditations were led by Rachel Welford from Welford Wellbeing.
Rabble, the fun, energetic group fitness sensation ran a mixture of lessons getting everyone moving including old school favorites British Bulldog and stuck in the mud!
SUP taster and improver sessions were also available as well as SUP yoga, SUP fitness and SUP Pilates led by the talented Ruth Tongue.
STOP 6 – Newquay Harbour
The final stop of the UK Red Paddle Co tour took us to the beautiful South West of England and the super hip beach-side town of Newquay. And finally the sun came out…yey!!!
Sam and his team from Newquay Watersports Centre were fantastic hosts leading a variety of SUP lessons within Newquay Hourbour and round to Newquay beach.
SUP yoga was led by the very talented and lovely Millie Kerr introducing a number of people to the joys of practicing yoga on the water and even getting people onto a paddle board for the first time within her yoga sessions!
Our friends at Fatboy supported the Red Paddle Co tour with some of their fantastically practical and comfortable Lamzacs for the team and guests to relax upon. These were much needed in the beautiful sun at Newquay.
Highlights of the day included races on the Ride L boards with teams of 4 competing to navigate out of the harbor, around the the beach and back again.
The day came to an epic close with our Lucky Limes competition seeing participants jumping onto paddle boards to swipe a numbered lime in the water. The lucky winner received a bottle of Daffy’s gin and a case of Fever Tree tonic and as a result had lots of new friends on the beach!
With thanks to our friends at DAFFY’S GIN, FEVER TREE TONIC, FATBOY, PALM, LULULEMON AND RABBLE for supporting us throughout our tour.
If you weren’t able to join us on tour this time, checkout the events section of our website or our Facebook page for other demos and events in an area near you.
See you on the road next year!
